The KAIROS DESIGN GROUP, LLC (KAIROS) currently serves as the retained Landscape Architect for the Borough of Steelton. One of the firm’s commissions includes the Front Street Master Plan project. The Streetscape Master Plan work involved a detailed analysis of 17 blocks, approximately two (2) miles, of Steelton’s Front Street.

The initial planning and and data collection phase resulted in the preparation of a thorough streetscape analysis. From the analysis, three (3) conceptual design alternatives were prepared, and included suggestions for improvements to pedestrian and traffic flow, trees and planting, signage, and architectural enhancements lighting. A site furnishing story board was prepared to illustrate a coherent collection of site furnishings.

Detailed architectural design guidelines were prepared to define and describe façade improvements and new “in-fill” construction. The final design phase included finalizing the graphical Master Plan and preparing a phasing plan for a realistic implementation. A variety of meetings and informational workshops were held, both with the client and the public, to allow for constructive involvement from Steelton’s leadership and citizens.
